When I was first drawn to meditation, like many others, I had this image of an old man with a grey beard sitting cross-legged in front of a cave, high on a mountain top. And sure enough the first class I went to we were guided on a journey to meet such an old man.
This apparently was part of the arduous journey toward self-fulfillment and self-improvement. And once we met him we could ask our all-important question like, "What is the meaning of life?" or "How do I achieve peace in my life?" And this sage one was meant then to tell me the answers are "inside you" and tell me to go and contemplate. Usually the wise old man never talked to me! And I would leave meditation wondering what the point of the journey was!
Today, I realise that is but one form of meditation. And that, yes, the answers are inside.

But I am not a wise old man on a mountain. I am just like you - going about my business of working and living, always seeking higher levels of serenity and peace in my life, attempting to help others find this too.
Yet I now know enough to know I'll never know enough. I am still learning to live more peacefully and with integrity, using meditation as a guide on my journey. I invite you to explore meditation for yourself, to find the answers to your questions, to find greater health and well-being, and to enter into a more peaceful and calm state.
If you'd like to experience a mini-meditation then in a moment you can click on the link below. Here are some hints to get you started:
|
| 1. Find yourself in a quiet place with no distractions.
2. Allow about ten minutes for this activity.
3. As you listen to the meditation, picture in your mind the images that are being described.
4. Be open to the meditation.
5. Now choose your meditation press play and close your eyes. |

It is a mistake to think we really know what life is about and then go on to define it and life's experiences only through our very narrow intellectual understanding. There is so much more to life than that! Most religions and philosophies practise meditation in one way or another. In the West we see it as an Eastern discipline tied up with yogis and gurus, but the prayers and chanting and contemplations and silence that are part of most church services in the West are also forms of meditation.
Anyone can meditate; you don't have to have a particular philosophy or religious belief. All you need is the willingness to give it a go. The various forms of meditation which I teach do not require that you follow or give up on any belief system.
But what is meditation? It is a question that has been asked by countless generations. Here are some ways in which it has been described:-
|
Meditation brings greater peace of mind, increases the capacity to handle stress
It has many spiritual benefits and aids our spiritual evolution
It is an exploration to the Inner Self
It ultimately leads to the realisation of your own true nature
It is a way of tuning in to the "still, small voice " within
|
|
Along the way, practised regularly, meditation can result in many benefits to your health, well-being, your relationships indeed every aspect of your life. It can reduce your pulse rate, improve your sleep patterns; some forms delay the ageing process. Meditation helps us get in touch with our deeper emotions and handle them more effectively, it offers a route to increasing your self esteem and handling negative emotional states such as anger.

Under all speech that is good for anything there is a silence that is better.
Silence is deep as Eternity; speech is shallow as Time.
